MANOBIK and WBB Trust organized a discussion seminar on 22 March 2006 to discuss progress in law implementation and what work is needed to strengthen monitoring and implementation of the law. Representatives of many BATA organizations participated in the seminar.
BDPC Files Legal Notice against Tobacco Companies
Bangladesh Development Partnership Centre (BDPC) filed a legal notice against BAT and nine other tobacco companies for violating the tobacco control law by continuing to advertise tobacco. For more information Visit BDPC website
Rural Acting Agreement Centre (RAAC) established a committee for law monitoring in Jinaidoho, with both government and non-government members. The committee is working on law monitoring regarding tobacco advertising, smoking in public places

Pratyasha organized a seminar on the role of local politicians in law enforcement on 10 April 2006. Present at the seminar were the Mayor of Dhaka, several Ward Commissioners, the Coordinator of the Bangladesh Anti-Tobacco Alliance, other NGO representatives, and journalists.

WBB Trust organized a meeting with journalistson 7 January 2006. Representatives of BATA and journalists participated in lively discussion of how electronic and print journalists can publicize weaknesses in law enforcement and to push for stronger enforcement and monitoring of the law.

On 17 January 2006, WBB Trust organized a workshop on amending Bangladesh’s tobacco control legislation to match the requirements of the FCTC. The workshop, funded by WHO, was attended by representatives of the government, WHO, media, and NGOs.
