WNTD 2004

The Bangladesh Anti-Tobacco Alliance (BATA) carried out many activities throughout the country to highlight the issue of tobacco and poverty on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day 2004. These activities included:

Distributing information throughout the country on the problem of tobacco and poverty, and on other tobacco-related issues such as tobacco control law and the FCTC; Carrying out a rally on the morning of the 31st in Dhaka, followed by a human chain to demand passage of a tobacco control law, marching from Sahid Minar to Dhaka University accompanied by a mobile song team; rally participants wore t-shirts with the message “Tobacco Use Increases Poverty”;; Rallies and seminars in various other parts of Bangladesh including Chittagong, Barisal, Rangpur, Natore, Satkira, Sylhet, and Rajshahi.

With WHO support, we created 500 t-shirts which we distributed at the rally and sent to BATA member organizations throughout the country.
